Description

This is a Japanese Tansu Tea Cabinet, dating to the 1960s. It has a case and a base made of walnut, and it has two pieces of artwork that are affixed to the front of the piece. The doors open to offer lots of storage.

The art on the right hand side of the cabinet depicts a Japanese woman wearing a kimono with a pattern of waterwheels in waves, executed by artist Kaigetsudō Dohan. The artwork on the left hand side depicts a monochrome woodblock print (sumizuri-e) of a standing courtesan, created by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Kaigetsudō Doshin.

This piece measures 16.25 inches deep, 48 inches wide, and 53 inches high. There are some surface blemishes along the edges, and there is some slight fading to the walnut. Overall, this cabinet is in good condition. Please see photos. The woodwork appears consistent with American mid century lines, though exact manufacturer or location is unknown.
