D40 was designed by Marcel Breuer. In 1925, Breuer became head of the furniture workshop in Dessau as a “young master”. The year before he had already formulated what he meant by contemporary furnishings. Breuer wasn’t concerned with formality, even if he attached great importance to details, he was concerned with intellectual precision.
